Parques de Sintra - Monte da Lua, SA

A Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua, S.A. (PSML) is a state-owned company that was formed in 2000, after the Cultural Landscape of Sintra was classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The company was formed with the purpose of bringing together the institutions responsible for safeguarding and increasing the value of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, and became responsible for the management of the Portuguese State's main properties in the area. It is not covered by the State Budget. The recovery and maintenance of the heritage is supported by the revenue from ticket offices, shops, cafeterias and from renting out spaces for events. In 2012, the natural and cultural assets that PSML manages (Park and Palace of Pena, Chalet of the Countess of Edla, Moorish Castle, Palace and Gardens of Monserrate and Capuchos Convent) had approximately 1,138,000 visits, over 90% of which by foreigners. Since September 2012, it has also been responsible for the National Palaces of Sintra and Queluz, as well as the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, based in Queluz.
