The Centro Português de Fotografia (Portuguese Photography Centre) runs an annual programme of temporary exhibitions and also has a permanent museum science centre, which encompasses a collection of cameras. It is based in the building of the former Oporto "Cadeia da Relação" (Municipal Prison), which in 2000 was the object of an intervention by the architects Eduardo Souto Moura and Humberto Vieira. The Centre is also responsible for managing the national photography collection.
