Gruta das Torres (Torres Cave) Visitor Centre

Print
The cave is of volcanic origin and has a total length of around 5,150 metres. It is rich in various types of stalactites and stalagmites formed of lava. The floor is also made up of lavas of various types. A unique experience, that is an interesting counterpoint to one of the islands in the archipelago of the Azores with the most peculiar landscape. The visitor centre works as a filter, a light, scale and landscape device. A particle decelerator enables the visitors to harmoniously enter another reality. The building's circular shapes, the basalt stones in the shape of a jalousie and its integration into the topography are some of the architectural devices that enable the building to gain these properties of a "portal".
