Gruta do Escoural

Print
The Gruta do Escoural (Escoural Cave) is situated in Herdade da Sala and is the only cavity known in the current Portuguese territory with cave paintings and engravings from the Upper Palaeolithic. The invisible architectural works consist of the platform, the crossing and the steps that make it possible to the visit to the walls of the cave. The cave comprises several rooms and galleries, which were used by populations around 50,000 years ago, who illustrated their interior with scenes from their daily lives. The experience mingles and the greatest compliment that can be made is to say that you did not visit an architectural intervention.
