São Nicolau Wash-House and Bathing Facilities

Print
For decades, public wash-houses were meeting places and a reference in the city of Oporto and are now the heritage of our collective memory. A small network identified on the Oporto City Hall maps has resisted to time, marking squares and other areas of the city. The São Nicolau Wash-House and Bathing Facilities have had an exemplary contemporary architecture project. It preserves its austere character and, without betraying its memory, manages to use contemporary architectural means and language. Visiting its interior is an experience that takes us on a journey of sensations, intertwined with memories where the history of Oporto can be told through its relationship with the water.
