Museu Grão Vasco

- Imposing granite building, with a singularly sober and monumental relationship with the city. This relationship is most evident on its northern façade. The work is quite simple, revealing its austere character and emphasising what is essential in its volumetrics by "freeing" its interior from any appended and distorting elements. At the same time, it adapts the monument to the demands of a contemporary museological programme. A museum of ancient art, where the collection of the work of Vasco Fernandes (15th Century) is of note, but where archaeological items and paintings of the 19th and 20th Century can also be found.
